Tomorrow is the International Day of the Disappeared. Mexican families draw attention to the fate of their relatives

August 30th is the International Day of the Disappeared. This day raises awareness of the fate of individuals whose whereabouts is unknown to their relatives and/or legal representatives in cases of involuntary disappereances because of armed conflict or authoritarian regimes. In preparation for this day, different human rights organizations and families of the disappeared are carrying out different events tomorrow throughout Mexico. Are you leaving with a clear conscience?

The members of FUNDEM wish to express our anger, outrage and boredom against Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, who caused the tragedy that left hundreds of thousands of orphans, maimed mothers, families torn apart and the latent pain for the next generations. FELIPE DE JESUS CALDERON HINOJOSA: The nation will remember you as the cruelest, the most bloodthirsty and inept President in the history of Mexico. Our sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters are not collateral damage of your war; they are innocent victims of your ambition, your political myopia, enormous ego and lust for power.  Our relatives have names; they are not a number of a preliminary investigation or a lengthy Act. They have dreams, stories of life, and above all, a family that loves them and will look for them every moment of their lives.

Refusal of National Human Rights Commission to create independent forensic Commission

Saltillo, Coahuila (30 October 2012) – The National Commission of Human rights (CNDH) responded to the communication sent on October 10, 2012 by various movements of the relatives of the disappeared and organizations of human rights.  In this document, these movements and organization expressed their concern for the lack of attention by the Commission.
